Focus Ireland Logo RGBFocus Ireland, are urgently looking for volunteers to work with them in Westmeath. 

The aim of Focus Ireland is to advance the right of people-out-of-home to live in a place they call home through quality services, research, and advocacy.

Key to a Home Volunteer Co-ordinator

Key to a Home Campaign

Volunteer Role: Local Volunteer Manager 

Title: Local Volunteer Manager

Reports to: Supervisor

Hours- 7 hours

Duration – September - November

Key To A Home - Help people who are homeless in from the cold this winter.

The Focus Ireland ‘Key to a Home’ collection is taking place on 19th, 20th and 21st November.  This is the second Focus Ireland Flag Day, where volunteers all over the country will be selling/buying key rings to raise money for homelessness.

Overall Responsibility

  • To help grow the Key to a Home Collection in your designated area
  • Recruit volunteers for the weekend of the Key to Home Collection in your designated area
  • To manage and organise your volunteers in the run up to and weekend of the Key to a Home Collection

Main Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Recruit volunteers through attendance at local volunteer fairs, meeting local volunteer bureaus, media advertising, friends, local groups and clubs.
  • Develop a database of local volunteers from each key town within the region. Keep in contact with local volunteers on a regular basis with updates and opportunities.
  • Encourage local volunteers to put up posters, write to their local papers, contact their local radio stations and participate in the campaign
  • Draw a volunteer plan for the weekend of the collections
  • Monitor volunteers over the weekend of the collections.

Criteria

  • Experience in team or volunteer leadership
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use a computer
  • Access to a car & full driving licence is desirable but not essential
  • Must be available for the weekend from 19th, 20th and 21st November

Person Specification

  • Good organisational skills
  • Self-starter with initiative and drive and the ability to inspire others to get involved
  • Self-directed and an ability to work independently
  • Professional but welcoming manner

Training, Support and Supervision

  • You will receive an induction to the organisation and the event prior to starting the role.
  • You will receive ongoing support from this supervisor

Overall Responsibility

  • To help grow the Key to a Home Collection in your designated area
  • To evaluate local areas for the best location points
  • To book collection locations and organise permits
  • To liase with team leaders informing them of their designated locations for collection

Main Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of a list of local media including local newsletters, church bulletins, radio presenters and personalities.
  • Assist with the development of a list of local churches, supermarkets and busy collection locations in the region.
  • Write and call local shopping centres, churches and companies to get permission for bucket collections, bag packs and church gate collections.
  • Write to local garda stations to get permission for bucket collections, bag packs and church gate collections.
  • Keeping up to date with your team leader by informing them of all their designated locations for collections.
  • Arrange for the distribution, recording, collection and counting of all fundraising materials throughout the campaign.

Criteria

  • Some experience in event management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Some experience in marketing and communications is desirable
  • Access to a car & full driving licence is desirable but not essential
  • Must be available for the weekend from 19th, 20th and 21st November
