  •  Local HeroesAssist and support town emergency personnel during town emergencies and as otherwise needed
  •  Assist other regional local hero organizations as necessary

Irish Friends of Pakistan (www.irishfriendsofpakistan.com ) are doing a collectionFriday the 27th of Augustin Mullingar and needs as many volunteers as possible to assist.

The Irish Friends of Pakistan will be doing a street collection to raise funds to supply those affected by the horrendous flooding in Pakistan and any help would be fantastic.

If you have any free time on this date, can you let us know?

Also, if you have any friends that can help too, that would be great.

As you know the flood situation is getting worse in Pakistan.
We have decided toraise money locally and then get a few Pre-fabricated units (orinflatable tents), itcan help establish a basic health centre/ First Aid centre in the affected areas of Pakistan.

About Irish Friends of Pakistan: The former Mayor of Mullingar, Cllr. Ruth Illingworth is the Chairperson (I'm the secretary). June Kelly is the Hon. Treasurer.

With your help all the funds raised would be usedto help with the relief efforts in wake of the worst floods in Pakistan's history.

The website: http://www.irishfriendsofpakistan.com/

will be kept up to date with information e.g. money collected so far, which projects are we working on as well as a breakdown of the money spent.

Conservative estimates put the figure betwen 1,600 to 2,000 people have died in the heavy monsoon rains, and at least 14 million have been badly affected.

The figure is more than the combined total of those affected by the 2004Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005Kashmir earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

All people associated with Irish Friends of Pakistan are volunteers. Would you be able to volunteer for this cause? If you would like to help, please email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

National Day of Volunteering

The aim of the National Day of Volunteering is to encourage everyone in Ireland to give volunteering a go, to show that – even if it’s only for a minute, an hour, a day – volunteering can make a big difference and be a lot of fun! This year, the National Day of Volunteering will take place on Friday, 1st of October.

There are lots of ways you can get involved: you can register to take part in a project already happening, register a project yourself, commit a ’random act of volunteering’ or simply take the opportunity to thank a volunteer. You’ll find a host of helpful guides and tools to help you here on our website or you can contact us with any queries too.

Why get involved? Because volunteering is good for you! Volunteering has a proven positive impact on volunteers, those they volunteer with and society in general. Together, we can build stronger neighbourhoods, stronger communities, a stronger Ireland!

CASTLEPALOOZA, Ireland's most intimate, exclusive 2 day boutique music festival at CHARLEVILLE CASTLE, TULLAMORE is back!

Now in its 5TH YEAR RUNNING, Castlepalooza promises to be better than ever as it continues to host super alternative, international and Irish acts, top class entertainment, camping and excellent washroom facilities!

New this year is the addition of a more interesting variety of activities and acts for you to peruse including live acts including headliner MERCURY REV, The Rainforest Day Spa, Art Installations,  Dance and Circus Workshops, and of course an amazing line up of Bands, Magicians, Fashion shows, Hammocks everywhere, Short Films, Whiskey Master classes, plus many more.

All of this is accessible to you while off duty - and it only requires shifts that range from between 4-8 hours depending on type of work.  For full information/travel/band line-up about the festival visit www.castlepalooza.com .

We are still currently recruiting enthusiastic and co-operative volunteers to work for the price of their ticket (currently on sale for €99 that includes weekend camping), in these areas:

*Stewards, catering and administration volunteers still needed!

(Security Steward Backup: Its not really having to act 'as' security as you have to be qualified to be professional security, but volunteering entails just helping notify professional security anything unusual or any site breaches while on duty and let them do their job.  And security supervises the volunteer stewards in order to help us do ours.  The more help supporting this, the better.)

All volunteers camp on site in Crew camping so tents, sleeping bags are required.  All volunteers are entitled one meal per shift provided by Castlepalooza - once you are off duty, you take care of yourself.

We usually get help from at least 100 volunteers every year to help make the festival the best that it can be.

Volunteers are welcome also to stick around for the Volunteer/Crew after party to celebrate our achievement!

Arrival time is usually Friday evening and pre-festival information and briefing with your team leaders.

So if Volunteering at Castlepalooza while having lots of craic sounds appealing to you please contact click here to apply for volunteering opportunities - volunteering places can only be reserved ahead of time and are on a first come first served basis.

    About the Mullingar Show

Over 150 years celebrating the best in farming, rural interests and country living

Sunday, 11th July 2010 at the Showgrounds, Culleen, Mullingar, Co Westmeath

For over 150 years Mullingar Show has supported agriculture and industry in Westmeath and throughout the Midlands.

Mullingar Show is run by the Committee of the Westmeath Show Society Limited, a not-for-profit company and registered charity, on their showgrounds at Culleen, Mullingar and attracts entries from across Ireland.

There are classes to reflect the traditional agricultural strengths of Westmeath in pedigree & commercial cattle and sheep showing. Horse and pony showing are traditionally very strong at Mullingar Show, with the large entry in show-jumping continuing an old tradition of excellence.

Of course, there are classes for poultry and a vibrant dog show with horticulture and cookery well-represented in the indoor section of the Show along with arts, crafts and photography.

Mullingar Show has a large trade stand area, indoor and outdoor, with stands reflecting all aspects of country and town life and living - from jodhpurs to jewelery, wellies to wine, food to fire extinguishers.

As always at Mullingar, there is entertainment for all the family - from parachute jumping, Cossack horse display, petting animals, rare breeds, to live music with Mullingar Town Band and local musicians.
